What you need before you start
- Your Radio ID (also called ESN or SID). You can find it by tuning to channel 0 on your radio, or by checking the label on the radio unit itself. See Find Your Radio ID for more help.
- A SiriusXM account. You can create one during activation at siriusxm.com or in the SiriusXM app.
- A payment method if you are choosing a paid plan, or eligibility for a free trial if one is available.
- Your radio powered on and in a location with a clear view of the sky, such as a driveway or open parking lot.
Quick activation checklist
1
Find your Radio ID
Turn your radio on and tune to channel 0. Write down the ESN or SID exactly as shown. If the radio is not installed yet, check the label on the unit.
2
Go to siriusxm.com or open the app
Visit the official SiriusXM website or use the SiriusXM mobile app to start activation. You can also call SiriusXM customer care if you prefer phone support.
3
Enter your Radio ID and vehicle or device info
Follow the prompts to enter your Radio ID. If you are activating a factory-installed car radio, you may also need your vehicle make and model.
4
Select a plan or start a free trial
Choose a subscription plan that fits your needs, or start a free trial if one is offered. Check siriusxm.com for current plans and pricing.
5
Confirm and wait for the signal
Complete the activation request. Keep your radio on and tuned to channel 1 or a preview channel. Activation can take 5 to 15 minutes, and sometimes up to an hour.
6
Test your channels
Scroll through a few channels to confirm audio is playing. If some channels are silent or missing, see Refresh Your Radio Signal.
If something goes wrong
- No signal after an hour? Make sure your radio has a clear view of the sky. Garages, parking structures, and dense tree cover can block the satellite signal.
- Channels still missing? You may need to send a refresh signal from your SiriusXM account online. See Refresh Your Radio Signal.
- Activation error? Double-check that you entered the Radio ID correctly. The letters I, O, and the number 0 can look similar.
- Not sure which plan to pick? Read Choose a Subscription Plan for tips on comparing options.
