If you have replaced your car, upgraded your radio, or bought a new SiriusXM receiver, you can move your existing subscription to the new device instead of starting a new one. Transferring keeps your plan and billing intact and avoids paying for two subscriptions.
This is an independent consumer guide. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by SiriusXM Satellite Radio.

What you need before you start

Before contacting SiriusXM or using your online account, collect the following information:
  • Your SiriusXM online account email and password (or the phone number on the account)
  • The Radio ID (ESN or SID) of the old radio you want to deactivate
  • The Radio ID (ESN or SID) of the new radio you want to activate
You can find the Radio ID by tuning to channel 0 on the radio display, or by checking the label on the radio unit itself.

How to transfer your subscription

1

Find both Radio IDs

Tune each radio to channel 0 to display the Radio ID (also called ESN or SID). Write both numbers down so you can reference them during the transfer.
2

Sign in to your SiriusXM account

Go to siriusxm.com and sign in to your account. If you do not have an online account, you may need to create one using the email or phone number associated with your subscription.
3

Locate the transfer or swap option

Look for an option to manage your radios, such as Change Radio, Transfer Subscription, or Swap Radios. The exact wording varies, but it is usually found under account or subscription management.
4

Enter the new Radio ID and confirm

Enter the Radio ID for your new radio. Confirm that you want to deactivate the old radio and move the subscription to the new one. Review any confirmation screens carefully before finalizing.
5

Wait for activation

After the transfer is confirmed, your new radio should receive the subscription signal within a few minutes. If it does not, try turning the radio off and on, or park the car outside with a clear view of the sky.

If you cannot transfer online

If you do not see a transfer option in your online account, or if you run into errors, you can contact SiriusXM customer care. Have both Radio IDs ready and ask the representative to deactivate the old radio and activate the new one on your existing plan.
If your old radio was built into a car you sold or traded in, deactivating it prevents the new owner from using your paid subscription.

After the transfer

  • The old radio will stop receiving SiriusXM channels once it is deactivated.
  • Your billing date and plan type usually stay the same, but it is a good idea to confirm this during the transfer.
  • If the new radio still shows only preview channels after 10 to 15 minutes, you may need to request a signal refresh from siriusxm.com.
Some promotional or lifetime plans may have restrictions on transfers. If you have a special plan, ask customer care whether it can be moved to a new radio.
