Common activation messages and how to fix them
Check Antenna
Check Antenna
A “Check Antenna” message usually means the radio is not receiving a strong enough signal from the satellite antenna. This is often a hardware or installation issue rather than a subscription problem. What to try:
- Make sure the antenna cable is firmly connected to the radio or tuner module. If you have an aftermarket radio, check the connection at the back of the dash.
- Inspect the antenna for visible damage, corrosion, or loose mounting. On vehicles, the antenna is often on the roof or rear window.
- Move your vehicle to an open area away from tall buildings, trees, or parking garages, then wait a few minutes.
- If the message persists after checking connections and testing outdoors, the antenna or cable may need replacement. Contact SiriusXM customer care or your installer.
No Signal
No Signal
“No Signal” means your radio is powered on but cannot detect the SiriusXM satellite signal at all. This can happen during first activation, after a vehicle battery replacement, or in areas with heavy signal blockage. What to try:
- Confirm the radio is tuned to a SiriusXM channel, not an FM or AM station.
- Park in an open space with a clear view of the sky and leave the radio on for up to 10 minutes.
- If you recently activated or renewed, send a signal refresh from the official SiriusXM website or app.
- Check that your subscription is still active by logging into your account on siriusxm.com.
- If the message appears only in certain locations, it is likely due to local terrain or buildings blocking the signal.
Subscription Updated
Subscription Updated
“Subscription Updated” typically appears when your radio has received a new authorization from the satellite network. In most cases, it should clear on its own within a few minutes and your channels should begin working. What to try:
- Leave the radio on and tuned to channel 1 for up to 5 minutes so the update can finish processing.
- If the message stays on every channel, request a signal refresh through the official SiriusXM site or app.
- Power cycle the radio by turning it off, waiting 30 seconds, and turning it back on.
- Verify that your Radio ID matches the one on your account. If you recently transferred a radio, the ID may need to be updated with customer care.
Call SiriusXM to Subscribe
Call SiriusXM to Subscribe
This message means your radio is not currently authorized for any subscription. It may appear on a new radio, a used vehicle you just purchased, or if a previous subscription has expired. What to try:
- If you already have an active subscription, double-check that the correct Radio ID is linked to your account. You can find your Radio ID on channel 0 or on a label on the radio unit. See how to find your Radio ID for details.
- If you are a new owner, visit siriusxm.com to start a new subscription or claim any available trial.
- If you recently transferred a subscription from another vehicle, confirm the transfer was completed and the old radio was removed from your account.
- Contact SiriusXM customer care if the message remains after confirming your account is active.
General tips that help with most issues
- Keep the radio on. Many updates and refreshes only work while the radio is powered and tuned to a SiriusXM channel.
- Get a clear view of the sky. Satellite signals need a direct line of sight. Tunnels, garages, and dense tree cover will block reception.
- Write down your Radio ID. You will need it for activation, refreshes, and support calls. It is usually found on channel 0 or on a label on the radio.
- Check your account online. Log into siriusxm.com to verify your subscription status, plan, and linked radios.
If nothing works
If you have tried the steps above and your radio still shows an error:- Gather your Radio ID, vehicle year and model (if applicable), and a photo of the screen message.
- Contact SiriusXM customer care through the official website or app.
- If you have a factory-installed radio, your vehicle dealer may also be able to check antenna connections.
