If your SiriusXM radio is showing channel names but playing silence, skipping channels, or displaying a "Subscription Updated" message that never clears, a signal refresh is usually the fastest fix. A refresh sends an activation update from the satellite network to your specific radio so it recognizes your current subscription status.

</Note>

## When to send a refresh signal

A refresh is helpful when:

* You recently activated or renewed a subscription and channels are still not working after 15 minutes.
* Your radio shows "Subscription Updated" or "Call SiriusXM to Subscribe" on every channel.
* Some channels work while others do not, even though they are part of your plan.
* You moved your radio to a new vehicle and need to reactivate it.

If your radio shows "Check Antenna" or "No Signal," a refresh alone may not fix the issue. See the [troubleshooting guide](/blog/activation-troubleshooting) first.

## How to refresh your signal

<Steps>
  <Step title="Turn your radio on">
    Start your vehicle or power on your standalone radio. Make sure it is tuned to **SiriusXM channel 1** or the preview channel, not an FM station.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Move outdoors if possible">
    Park in an open area with a clear view of the sky. Garages, parking structures, and dense tree cover can block the satellite signal while the refresh is being sent.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Request the refresh">
    Visit the official SiriusXM website or use their mobile app to send a refresh signal to your radio. You will need your **Radio ID** (also called ESN or SID). If you do not know it, see [how to find your Radio ID](/blog/find-your-radio-id).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait several minutes">
    Leave the radio on and tuned to channel 1. The refresh can take up to 5 minutes to arrive. You may hear a brief tone or see the channel list update when it completes.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Test your channels">
    Once the refresh is done, tune to a few different channels to confirm audio is playing. If channels are still silent, try turning the radio off and back on.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  You can typically send one or two refresh signals per day through the official site. If you need more, contact SiriusXM customer care directly.
</Tip>

## What to do if the refresh does not work

If you have waited more than 10 minutes in an open area and your radio still is not working:

* Double-check that your subscription is active by logging into your account on siriusxm.com.
* Verify you entered the correct Radio ID when requesting the refresh.
* Try moving to a different location with a clearer view of the sky.
* Power cycle the radio by turning it fully off, waiting 30 seconds, and turning it back on.

If none of these steps help, contact SiriusXM customer care for further assistance.
